'F1' immersive video takes you around the track with Brad Pitt on Apple Vision Pro

Brad Pitt in "F1"

Apple's new Vision Pro short puts Brad Pitt behind the wheel — and viewers in the cockpit — for a roaring F1 thrill ride.

A new immersive short video debuted Thursday on Apple Vision Pro. Titled "F1: The Movie Hot Lap," it takes viewers on a high-speed test drive with Brad Pitt.

In Formula 1, a "hot lap", also known as a fast lap or flying lap, is a full lap taken around a circuit in either practice or qualifying rounds. It's often the second lap done after the car has been warmed up with a slow lap.

Like all of Apple's Vision Pro-geared immersive content, it's an 8K, 180-degree video, allowing users to feel like they're really in the car as it races around the circuit. Sigmund Judge about the video on Threads.

We've viewed the content. As you'd expect from the company that makes the Apple Vision Pro, the content is engrossing, with the feeling of speed captured very well by the headset. AirPods do a better job with the audio, as you'd expect, and that's the experience we recommend with this short bit of content.

"F1: The Movie Hot Lap" is just one of the many things Apple has released to increase awareness of the upcoming film, which is set to hit theaters on June 27. Earlier in June, Apple TV+ released a new trailer for "F1," using haptics to make iPhones shake as cars zoom by.

Tim Cook and Brad Pitt crashed a Today at Apple session at the Fifth Avenue Apple Store, surprising attendees during an event headlined by the cast and crew of Severance.

The film also used the iPhone in an unusual way: by using components typically used in the smartphone to create a custom camera.

Apple has been pushing "F1" hard — almost as hard as a new iPhone. In the past, Apple has been criticized for not promoting its films enough, but for sure, that can't be said about "F1."

However, there's a chance that "F1" could be the last film Apple goes all out on. Following a series of commercial failures, the company is said to have been considering "F1" as a final attempt to succeed with a high-budget movie.
