People trying to convert a RAW/bitmap/lossless format to HEIF are out of luck too. Preview doesn't export in HEIF, and Photos doesn't convert RAW/bitmaps/lossless imported pics in the new format either.
Moreover, converting a video to H.265 with Quicktimes takes 2-3 times longer as in Handbrake. Unfortunately too, the H.265 videos created by Handbrake, are not recognized by macOS...
So, either you have an iPhone 7/8/X, or no new formats for you.
People might want to get on Apple's case about this lack of support, but to be fair, Apple only found out Mac OS High Sierra would include H.265 HEVC at WWDC in June. Give Apple time folks!
Does Adobe support HEIF?
The iMovie update with HEVC support dropped yesterday, so the FCPX update should drop shortly.
