iPhone 17 cases could have really wild camera holes

The designs of cases for the iPhone 17 collection could be a massive departure from the norm, if one leaker's images are to be believed.

Rumors about the camera bumps used in the iPhone 17 generation of devices insist that there will be big changes on the way. To match the bump alterations, cases for the upcoming iPhone releases will also need to be updated.

Four cases are shown off in a collection of photographs shared by serial leaker Majin Bu on X . The shots all depict transparent cases held in the left hand, with all also sporting a white ring for MagSafe support.

A lines the four cases up in one shot posted on Monday.

The main talking point about the cases are the cutouts on the rear for the camera bumps. Cases are supposedly shown for the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The Pro and Pro Max cases are shown with giant camera bump cutouts spanning almost the entire width of the case, save for the side bumpers. They also take up about a quarter of the overall height of the cases, to account for the similarly-sized bump.

A third case also has a cutout that spans the width, like the Pro model versions. However, this iPhone 17 Air case takes up less space than the Pro cases, due to the expected thinner camera bar design.

The fourth case is for the iPhone 17, which takes the form of a three-pronged shape. The vertically-arranged camera duo is evident, but there's also a smaller side cutout to accommodate the flash.

Bump to Bumper

The source of the case images, Majin Bu, has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple rumors. However, they do often get some details right.

In the case of the cases and the camera bumps, this is an area where Bu has previously made claims on, alongside other more authoritative sources.

For example, Bu has previously released images of metal plates that may be used in the creation of cases, complete with a wide arrangement of camera bump cutouts. Bu also released alleged promo shots for cases for the iPhone 17 Pro in April, complete with the "camera bar" and a selection of potential colorways.

Elsewhere, other leakers have released details of potential dummy devices, as well as metal case molds. Dummies have also been sourced by ÌÇÐÄVlog for its own reporting.

While the dummies and case leaks at this time of year are typically pretty accurate, there is no guarantee that they are correct. At least, until Apple actually ships the iPhone 17 range this September.

This doesn't look wild at all. Perhaps normal?

My disappointment would be that the camera rings are looking like they still stick out of these camera bars. Apple seems to love these graduated series of steps in their design to ease the visual of how much the camera lens stick out. It does mean the iPhone 17 models will rock a little while sitting on a table. My least favorite thing about this design.

I have been scoping out MagSafe "back-only" cases and I hope bumpers continue to be available. Really hope back-only cases are available for iPad Pros too.

Sorry, but in the headline did you mean to write “Wild” or “Wide”?

I interpreted “wild” in the headline to mean the cases would be “strange”. But the article mentions “width” a few times, so I am thinking the headline might have just simply been a typo. Although these case examples with the super wide camera holes do look a little strange to me. So maybe you did mean to write “Wild”. Not sure.

I'm very happy with the bumper case for my iP12. No back at all! Kind of like the camera hole is the entire back. ;)

It lays flat on a table. So much happier with this versus my old case which had a ridge around the camera bump to protect it.
