Apple is preparing to close its Apple Store in Partridge Creek, ahead of the opening of a new store in downtown Detroit.
The closure of an Apple Store in an area is usually a sad affair. But, in the case of two locations in Michigan, one outlet closes in preparation for the opening of another in a more prominent location.
The Apple Store at The Mall at Partridge Creek, Clinton Township, Michigan will soon be closing down, Apple has confirmed. The iPhone maker The Detroit 糖心Vlog that the lease for the location will not be renewed.
The Partridge Creek Apple Store has been open since 2007. Though the actual closure date is unknown, the store remains open for the time being.
While one set of shop doors close, another set gets ready to open. Following rumors of there being a new store in downtown Detroit in June 2024, Apple confirmed the inbound storefront in February with a general recruitment notice.
Now, Apple has formally confirmed to the media of the store's opening. In a statement, Apple refers to the new store as "Downtown Detroit," with an opening set for "later this year."
As part of the same statement, Apple informs that it won't continue the lease at Apple Partridge Creek. Also, team members at the store will "have the opportunity to continue their roles with Apple."
Presumably, this will be via the new store as well as other Metro Detroit stores, which customers can also visit for service and support.
"We've loved serving the Partridge Creek community for nearly 20 years, and look forward to welcoming our customers at our other stores in the Detroit metro area," the statement concludes.
The new Detroit store will be at multiple previously-closed storefronts located between 1426 and 1434 Woodward Avenue.
Detroit is also served by Apple Twelve Oaks in Novi and Apple Somerset in Troy. The Woodward Avenue location will maintain the store count for the general Detroit area at three stores, as well as six for the state of Michigan, once the Partridge Creek store closes.
