Little is known about the rumored homeOS that could take over under the Apple Home umbrella. While Apple's smart home strategy is spread across various technologies, it doesn't have a unifying system beyond home hubs running tvOS.
Apple's homeOS could change that, bringing the HomeKit framework, Apple-made smart home hardware, and overlying infrastructure under a single name. It could replace tvOS on Apple TV or exist as a separate entity starting as the HomePod's new operating system.
Ultimately, homeOS is likely going to be for the Apple Home Hub tablet device that has been rumored. This tablet is expected to be an inexpensive device that is carried by users throughout the home and presents information from docking stations.
Currently, Apple doesn't offer any product that would run a homeOS graphical user interface. The HomePods are the likely home for this operating system, which would replace the tvOS-based HomePod Software that's currently in use.
WWDC 2025 came and went without homeOS, so there's a chance it won't arrive until the Home Hub product is revealed. Or, depending on Apple's strategy, it could wait until WWDC 2026.
